Perfume Notes Explained: An Introduction

What are perfume notes? Perfume is akin to a story with three parts. Perfumers craft scents using notes— the components that evolve over time on your skin. These notes are divided into three layers:
Top Notes – the initial scent you detect, light and fresh, but only lasts for a few minutes.
Heart Notes – the core of the fragrance, richer and more complex, appearing after the top notes dissipate.
Base Notes – the foundation, deep and enduring, lingering for hours.
Imagine it like music: top notes are the opening melody, heart notes the chorus, and base notes the concluding part that remains with you.
Why do notes matter? Understanding notes allows you to choose perfumes that align with your style. A citrus top note might feel energetic, a floral heart note romantic, and a woody base note grounding and elegant.
What’s next in this series? In upcoming posts, we’ll explore each layer — starting with the vibrant freshness of top notes. You’ll discover how to identify them, why they’re significant, and which perfumes in our collection highlight them best.
